Request letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, counselors, employees. You do not need more than three letters.
October & November - Complete online applications to four-year colleges. Take the SAT or ACT no later than December.
December & January - Complete online applications to private colleges. Turn in local DHSHS Scholarship Application to the Career Center. Submit mid-year grades/transcripts to colleges as requested. Attend Financial Aid Information Night December 11 with your parents. Attend FAFSA Night on January 15.
January & February - Submit FAFSA or Dream Act applications. Create a Cal Grant account. Verify that your GPA has been received. Make accounts in your college portals. Keep checking for information requested by colleges as they review your applications. Keep track of all user names and passwords for the various accounts you are creating.
March - Check your FAFSA and Cal Grant accounts to see if your applications have been processed. Keep your accounts up to date with your first choice college name. Apply for Pathways to Success scholarships by March 2. Go to dhshs.cvscholars.com to complete your application.
April - Update your FAFSA with your parents' tax return information for 2014. Apply for community colleges.
May - Review your college financial aid offers, and accept or decline awards. Apply for housing and meal plans if you will live on campus at college.
